When choosing to feature GetMyNameOut, publisher Don Olea sited his own experience as a high school athlete and the challenges he faced in getting recruited for college. "Being a hockey player from San Diego, it was very difficult to market myself to college coaches. With the advent of the internet, GetMyNameOut is an outstanding way for athletes and coaches to connect". Don eventually was recruited and after a successful college career, went on to play minor-pro hockey.
